System Engineer - Websphere

Description:

This position requires a professional, who is highly experienced in the discipline of web application system support to help install, configure and maintain the client’s website and Ticketing System.

The candidate must have a thorough understanding of IBM WebSphere Application Server v6, IBM HTTP Server, Unix System (Solaris), Shell Scripting,  Oracle Database, and SQL. Responsibilities include supporting the website and ticketing applications running on WebSphere Application Server, maintaining all supporting software updates, providing front-line support for system failures, and technical assistance to QA group.

The candidate will work under the general supervision of the Senior Software Engineer.  No management responsibility.

Actual Duties:

• Assist Senior System Engineer in installation, configuration, deployment and support of future versions of the website and ticketing systems and provide technical support and assistance for the current version of the website (for both Internet Booking and Content Management),

• Deploy new website and ticketing applications on IBM WebSphere Application Server in Test, Staging and Production environments,

• Provide backup support to Senior System Engineer for the website,

• Serve as front-line support when problems are reported to the ticketing system,

• Work with Data Center to keep ticketing system in a state of good repair,

• Work with QA group when a new release of ticketing system is being prepared for testing,

• Work with Systems Engineer when changes and updates are needed to the ticketing hardware,

• Monitor system health using Mercury SiteScope monitoring tool.

Required:

• Have at least 5 years of experience as a support engineer in the deployment and support of business critical web applications with high availability requirements,

• Have experience in installation, configuration and deployment of web applications on IBM WebSphere Application Server v6 and IBM HTTP Server,

• Have experience in UNIX system (Solaris) and shell scripting,

• Have experience in Oracle database and SQL,

• Be able to break down complex tasks into manageable pieces,

• Be able to work independently on multiple concurrent tasks, and

• Have the ability to estimate reliably the time, effort and resources required for completing a task.

• Possess excellent presentation and written communication skills and the ability to work closely with peers and team members in a collaborative manner

Desired:

• Knowledge about Mercury SiteScope monitoring tools and Akamai software a plus 

• Experience implementing web solutions in the travel industry is desired (booking engines and content management systems)
